Curriculum
Programs for students in years 9-12 are developed by Sydney Distance Education High School providing students with the opportunity to gain equitable access to the mainstream curriculum. In 2011 Centennial Park School is undertaking a new initiative in the preparation of the Stage 4 program for years 7 and 8. The aim is to create a more engaging program which allows for greater flexibility of content, and which is targeted in assessing and subsequently addressing, individual numeracy and literacy deficits. The new stage 4 program in addition to the collaborative relationship with Sydney Distance Education High School allows for such modifications as are necessary to meet individual needs and cater for individual learning styles. Life skills and blended mainstream/life skills programs are developed for students as appropriate. All students have access to computer and internet technology, and specific skills in these areas are taught in an integrated manner through all key learning areas and in specific computer classes. Transition/Integration
Families, students, regional staff, the school counselor, and Principal collaborate and consult with relevant schools, TAFE colleges, workplaces and other agencies to facilitate successful reintegration into mainstream settings or transition into work/further education. Teachers are released when possible in order to visit students in their mainstream setting, and support successful integration and aid in determining impediments Pro Social Interpersonal Skills
One of the school's prime focal points is social skill development and the school aims to provide an environment in which pro-social skills are demonstrated and encouraged at all times. Consistent modelling and explicit facilitative explanation are a part of the daily fabric of the school's life. In addition, in-class programs provide structured learning experiences in these areas. Elements of this program complement and are linked with Personal Development/Health/Physical Education (PDHPE) studies. Health Recreational
Staff and students participate in a range of sporting, art, music and other recreational activities each week. Students are involved in the planning of these activities and are encouraged to generalise healthy recreation skills into their out of school lives. Elements of this program complement and are linked with PDHPE, Art and Key Learning Area studies. Living Skills
Food technology classes take place each week for all students, in which consumer and living skills such as shopping for food; safe storage of food; food preparation and catering are addressed. Community Participation
Currently the school liaises with several government and community agencies including Department of Community Services, Department of Juvenile Justice, Adolescent Area Health Service at Prince of Wales Hospital, Ted Noffs Foundation, Come in Centre, Headspace and Area Police/Youth Liaison Officers. Special Features
Centennial Park School provides short-term intensive personalised educational programs and support for students in years 7-12 who have been diagnosed with mental health problems and/or disorders. The school has a capacity of 28 enrolments.
